Aw yeah, I remember He-Man when I was a kid, & I heard you wrote an episode called "The Phone", what kind of scenes you wrote in this episode?

Hi,
That's right, I wrote 'The Phone' for the second season of Gumball along with Ben (the creator) and Mic (the director).
What's your name by the way?
I always feel a little strange conversing with an 'anonymous'.

I'm a young cartoonist planning to go on the same journey as you. I watch Adventure Time, Regular Show, MAD, & The Amazing World of Gumball. I'm just checking out your awesome art & work for Cartoon Network London. :)

I'm glad you like my work!
Good luck on embarking into the world of cartoons and animation! Feel free to drop me an email if you want to chat further about any of this stuff.

I just watched "The Limit" & I gotta say, I thought I had issues with Nicole since "The Fridge" due to her character was out of character, but at the end of "The Limit", she realized what kind of horrible behavior she was acting towards her family (even Richard, Gumball, Darwin, & Anais apologized to Nicole for asking for candy too seriously). It was really fun for you to write this episode with James Lamont & Jon Foster, & I hope to look forward for more of your writing work. (I also follow storyboard artist William Laborie) :)

I'm glad you're looking forward to more of my writing!
I wasn't actually involved in the writing of this particular episode, and also never got the chance to work directly with James and Jon. I was brought in to cover while they were away on holiday and I had some spare time at the development studio.
I totally agree that they did a fantastic job on both season one and two though.

James & Jon are the only writers I love, but let's talk about "The Limit", the only parts I didn't like in this episode is the Wattersons treating Nicole like garbage just to get candy & the ending where Gumball, Darwin, & Anais finally got candy that given by an orange security guard, they don't deserve candy for their crude & mean behavior towards Nicole. I kinda felt sorry for Nicole. :(

Hi,
To be honest, I've not seen 'The Limit'. In fact I've not actually seen any of the finished episodes from Season 2 yet.
Your points seem very valid, but unfortunately, having not seen it, I've got nothing more I can add to that. If you want to talk about it further though I suggest contacting James and Jon direct.
Here's a link to their blog... http://jameslamontjonfoster.blogspot.com
Glad you're enjoying the show!

Thanks. Did you watched Pete Browngardt's Uncle Grandpa last night?

I didn't watch it yet, looking forward to catching it soon though. Everything I've seen of it up until now looks great. Very funny.

Did you find the storyboard drawings of "The Dress"? Because I saw storyboards of different episodes by Aurelie Charbonnier & Jean Texier.

Chris Garbutt said...

I do have the storyboards, but they're not in a state to post on the blog right now unfortunately.
They're pretty rough and each panel is saved as a seperate jpeg for pitching through bridge. I just don't have the time to collate them into pages and post them.

I do have other posts on my blog with some old board work from the development studio if you're interested.

Cool, do you know anything about background matte painting? Because I remembered that the backgrounds from Gumball is from Vallejo, San Francisco, & London. I saw Yann Benedi's background portfolio of how backgrounds in Gumball are made, here's the link: http://yannbenedi.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-amazing-world-of-gumball.html :)

Hey Chris, I know you're kinda busy on the things you're doing, but I was wondering if you could talk to Ben Bocquelet about Molly. You see, Molly is my favorite character since "The Pressure" aired, but when season 2 of Gumball arrived, I didn't see her! & I don't want to believe that Sarah (the ice cream girl) is Molly's replacement, but at least she's a new character I like. So please ask Ben if there's a chance that Molly is in season 3. I'm kinda depressed to believe that she's gone. :(

Chris Garbutt said...

Hi,
I'm sorry hear that one of your favourite Gumball characters isn't being featured as much as you'd hoped.
Unfortunately there isn't anything I can do to help. I don't work on the show any more and haven't done for a while.

The best thing would be for you to contact the Gumball crew with your thoughts through their FaceBook page, or see if they have some kind of presence on Twitter so you can discuss it with them. Good luck!

Aw, thanks. Peace out, Chris! ;)
